Gareth Pugh wurde 1981 in Sunderland, England geboren und begann bereits im zarten Alter von 14 Jahren als Kostümdesigner am English National Theater zu arbeiten. Daraufhin studierte er am City of Sunderland College, beendete sein Studium allerdings 2003 an der Central Saint Martins School. In seiner Abschlusskollektion zeigte er aufblasbare Kleider, die schon bald darauf zu seinem Markenzeichen werden sollten. 2006 gründete Gareth Pugh sein gleichnamiges Label und hatte noch im selben Jahr seine erste Show auf der London Fashion Week.
Seine innovativen und skulpturalen Kreationen sowie seine aufblasbare Kleidung heben ihn deutlich von der Masse ab und lassen seine Mode am Körper eher wie ein Kunstwerk erscheinen. Prominente Bewunderer und Unterstützer findet Pugh nicht nur in US Vogue-Chefin Anna Wintour, auch Stars wie Kylie hüllen sich in Videos und auf Tourneen gerne in seine Kreationen.
